The Laboratory of Informatics, Robotics and Microelectronics of Montpellier LIRMM – is a joint research unit, dependent on the University of Montpellier and the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). Its research activities fully position LIRMM at the heart of science and information technology, communications and systems. LIRMM’s research activities relate to the design and verification of embedded systems, modeling of complex systems based on agents, algorithmic studies, bioinformatics, human-computer interaction, robotics, etc.

The Open Data Research Group (http://odrg.lirmm.fr) within LIRMM focuses on problems related to the semantic web. The three main challenges in front of the Open Data team can be summarized as follows:

  • Resolving data heterogeneity (semantic, linguistic, conceptual)
  • Dealing with large scale data (big data)
  • Taking into account data quality (imprecision, vagueness, imperfection)

The goal of the team is to address these challenges, by proposing innovative solutions with significant advantages in terms of quality, scalability, and performance. The solutions are validated on data of various application fields (e.g., culture, health, environment, biology, etc.).
